Small Industries Service Institute was
set up as a branch in the year 1971. In 1977 it was upgraded to a full-fledged
institute with jurisdiction over the states of Manipur and Nagaland. It worked
from a rented building in Keishampat junction, later shifted to a rented shed
in Takyelpat Industrial estate and was its own double storied building since
1997. Various activities undertaken by the institute are

Imparting technical assistance and
information in setting up new units

Project profiles of over 1000 items.

Practical demonstration on preparation
on processed foods.

Conducting Entrepreneurship &
Management Development Programmes and Intensive Motivation Campaign.

Marketing assistance programmes
through registration with the Sub-Contract Exchange (SCX).

Sending samples to international and
national trade fairs.

Assistance to exporters through
marketing assistance scheme: 90%. Subsidy on economy class air travel
to-and-fro for one person: 60%. Subsidy as stall rent, Rs 15000/- on
transportation of exhibits (Total Rs 1.25 lakhs of micro units with investment
upto Rs 25 lakhs in plant and Machinery.

Conducting programmes on ISO: 9000
certification, energy conservation, Intellectual Property Rights, World Trade
Organisation, Biotechnology, packaging for Export.

Development of clusters of industries.
Currently Food Processing industries of Imphal City are being taken up for a
three-year intervention.
